Doumbek performance

I don’t know if you’ve played with these bad boys, but doumbek drums are great for performance art, if you are going to play for dancers, it’s best you learn the middle-eastern rhythms typically used when playing it. Remember to have your dancers or players doing a chant, and don’t forget, if you’ve been taught to hold the drum a certain way, don’t think that’s the only way you can hold the drum.  Believe it or not, there are different ways and positions to play the Doumbek and you can get all kinds of sounds from them. Don’t limit yourself to the old, you’re only limited by your imagination!
