The True Meaning of Art

I have never really been into art because I feel that I do not understand what the artist is trying to portray. I have been to many art museums throughout my life and even though I must admit that I have seen some pretty nice paintings I feel like I do not really understand what they really want to tell me. A close friend of mine is an artist and she has many pastel paintings for sale, but I have never bought any because I do not see what she wants to portray in them. I think that I might be the one with the problem because a lot of people that I know really like her art.
