Fuel Economy Factors

There are many Fuel Economy Factors. Heavy acceleration and braking reduces fuel efficiency, especially on the highway as opposed to in city driving. If you are carrying extra items on top of your car or on a rack this can also affect drag and reduce your fuel efficiency. Cold weather and short trips at frequent intervals do not give your vehicle adequate time to warm up, therefore your engine will not be operating at peak efficiency. Using 4-wheel drive, running the air conditioner, towing or carrying extra weight, and driving on mountainous terrain all adversely affect fuel economy as well.
