A Sergeant Teaches Air Force Personnel About the Dangers of Abusive Drinking

Sergeant Duckworth was a trainer in the United States Air Force.  His specialty was drug and alcohol abuse information, treatment, and prevention.  Due to the increase in incidents of alcohol abuse and alcoholism among Air Force personnel, especially among those who served in the Middle East, the Air Force was upgrading their curriculum about alcohol information in particular and about drug and alcohol abuse and addiction in general.  Sergeant Duckworth is one of the individuals who believes that a good counselor or trainer needs to be able to “walk in the shoes” of the client.  And one of the most effective ways to do this is if the counselor is a recovering drug or alcohol abuser or addict.  In Sergeant Duckworth’s case, he actually went through alcohol treatment two years ago.  Since he has been sober for two years, he feels that he can identify with the person who is still struggling with his or her drinking problem and then he can offer the necessary encouragement and hope for recovery.
