How Good Is Current Prostate Testing?

Millions of men suffer from prostate problems every year and a number of tests including the digital rectal examination and psa blood test are widely used to assess these problems. The problem however with these and other tests is that, when it comes to prostate cancer which is the main problem that men are concerned with, they cannot by themselves confirm the presence of cancer but can only point to its possible presence. Accordingly, where these tests indicate that cancer may be present, it is then necessary to carry out a prostate biopsy and to look at samples of the prostate tissue under a microscope in order to confirm its presence or otherwise. This said, the testing carried out today is generally very effective and many lives are being saved every year by such things as simple and inexpensive psa blood testing.
