Teen Meth Use

Methamphetamine is a breakout drug in the new century, and children are paying the price.

According to the 2004 Texas School Survey of Substance Use:

2.5% of boys and 2.4 % of girls reported using uppers including methamphetamines 8% of Texas high school students tried meth at least once in their livesNationally, 2.5 percent of 8th-graders, 5.2 percent of 10th-graders, and 6.2 percent of 12th-graders reported using meth.

Meth can do permanent damage to the mind and body, physically aging skin, causing teeth to fall out, and leaving literal holes in a person’s memory.  Drug addiction centers in Texas and in other states are available to help individuals recover from the ravages of meth addiction.  There is help available — but it’s also important to help young people become aware of the consequences of this drug, and to give them the information they need to make a healthy life choice.
