Earth Friendly Energy

Most people who knew my mother considered her different. But the truth is, she was ahead of her time when it came to taking care of the planet.

When all of her neighbors were using chemicals on their yard and garden, she would use alum, which bugs don’t like. She used coffee grounds to fertilize her flowers, and wrote letters to the government about pollution.

There was even a time when she bought an Earth 4 energy kit and she and my father converted to solar energy. They had almost no electric bill and felt they were helping the earth.

Nowadays it’s common to see people on TV talking about saving the earth. If my mother were still here she would yawn and wonder why they thought that was new.
