Method of allocation
Static IP address is assigned by the computer administrator which varies with the variation of the platform of the operating system. On the other hand the dynamic IP address is assigned by the computer itself either randomly or arbitrary assigned by the dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP). The dynamic IP addresses may tends to change generally. In some cases, the administrator may implement dynamically assigned static IP addresses. Here a DHCP server is used which is specially configured to always allot the same IP address to a particular computer and never allot the same to another computer on the network. This in turn allows static IP addresses to be configured in one place, without any need to configure each computer on the network an a different way. In the absence of both the administrator and DHCP the operating system assigns the dynamic IP address by itself. These addresses are known as link-local addresses
