Use positive reinforcement

One of the best methods of training any Labrador retriever is to use positive reinforcement. The use of positive reinforcement rather than punishment will help to ensure that your dog will enjoy his or her training sessions, rather than fear them. Depending on your preferences, you can use a small food treat as a positive reinforcer — or you can use a small chew toy instead. The important thing is that your dog perceive that this is a positive reinforcement for a job well done. All other things being equal, your dog is eager to please you — and when you give them a reinforcement that they enjoy they will know that they are doing the right thing.
