Intensive piggeries

These warehouses are meant to monitor the pigs’ condition.  The building are ventilated in order to regulate the temperature.  Pigs lack the sweat glands so they are susceptible to heat stress which can lead to death.  That is why indoor piggeries are more common in climates where it is not suitable for pigs to run free outdoors.  Being able to keep control of the temperature inside helps in taking care of pigs.  Indoor piggeries lack the mud cooling aspect in which pigs naturally cool themselves so they must use a drip water system to keep their temperatures down.  The farmers can also monitor the amount of food each pig is given when in their own individual stalls.  Also to prevent infection or diseases the farmer add antibiotics into their food.  In these individual allows the farmers to collect waste more easily.  The smell is still prevalent but at least they can collect and move it out to use as fertilizer if need be.
